Mica Corporation, a global leader of water-based primers and coatings for the flexible converting industry for more than 50 years, will be presenting, moderating and exhibiting at the TAPPI FlexPack PLACE Conference in Austin, TX.
On Monday, April 11th, Mica will present its latest innovations in water-based primers and coatings, including compostable adhesion promoters and oxygen barrier coatings, at the New Technology Showcase. Mica will highlight products that will help converters achieve their sustainability goals, including products that will help converters downgauge materials in a variety of structures, improve packaging barrier to reduce food waste, add the functionality needed for mono-material packages, and create 100% commercially compostable structures. Mica will be hosting a tabletop at the new technology reception during the conference to showcase how these technologies can help attendees in a variety of markets.
Mica’s Technical Sales Director and recent Andreas Ahlbrandt Prize winner, Rob Hammond, will also be moderating a session on Biopolymers and Compostability on Wednesday morning, April 13th. The session will educate attendees on topics such as how to best determine the processibility of biopolymers for extrusion coating, and how to expand consumer access to composting by improving infrastructure and sorting technology.
In addition to Mica’s participation in the conference’s technical program, on April 12th, Mica’s Communications Manager, Jessi Spadaccino, will be receiving the Young Professional of the Year Award for 2022. Jessi has been actively involved in TAPPI since 2015 and was nominated by her peers for this award due to her significant contributions to the advancement of both the Young Professionals and International Flexible Packaging and Extrusion Divisions.
During the conference, the next recipient of the Daniel Siegel Scholarship Award will also be announced. The scholarship was established by TAPPI and Mica in 2010 to honor the memory of Mica’s founder and converting industry trailblazer, Daniel Siegel. The award is given out every two years to a qualified TAPPI student member enrolled in a flexible packaging program.
President of Mica Corporation, Jeff Siegel, said, “Mica is delighted to be back at TAPPI in full force this year. Since the early 1970s, Mica has supported TAPPI’s mission to encourage technology exchange and the technical advancement of our industry. Our team has participated in leadership roles across the organization and has brought thoughtfully researched technical knowledge to TAPPI conferences and short courses. This year, we will once again award the Daniel Siegel Scholarship in honor of our founder and look forward to unveiling our latest work in the areas of compostable adhesion promoters and barrier coatings.”
